How to Paint Subtle Wall Stripes and Stencil a Bathroom Floor

When our reader Roeshel shared her bathroom makeover, we fell in love immediately. Here’s her note:

I’m excited to submit my bathroom makeover for a reader redesign. The total project cost was just $512, and I’m thrilled with the result. I already had the ceiling paint, primer, and trim and door paint from previous projects, so those didn’t add to the cost. For the walls I used Benjamin Moore’s Light Pewter and Nimbus, color-matched to Valspar Signature paint. The lighting came from Lighting Direct, and the oval vanity mirror was from Lowe’s. I painted the floor myself using Valspar Porch and Floor Paint in “Journey” combined with some Benjamin Moore “Smoke Embers” I had on hand, and I used two matching Elegant Bracket stencils for the pattern. To finish, I sealed the floor with Minwax water-based polyurethane (note: it can yellow very light colors). I purchased the extra-long white waffle shower curtain at Target, and refreshed the faucets with Rust-Oleum primer, oil-rubbed bronze spray paint, and a spray lacquer topcoat. Thanks for the inspiration—more project details and step-by-step photos are on my blog. ~Roeshel

The transformation is stunning. The horizontal wall stripes add subtle visual interest, while the painted, stenciled floor becomes the room’s focal point. The soft, coordinated palette—white trim and a white pedestal sink layered over tone-on-tone walls—creates a bright, clean feeling without looking cold. The mix of pattern and texture, from the waffle shower curtain to the elegant stencil work on the floor, keeps the space feeling fresh and thoughtfully designed.

What do you think of Roeshel’s makeover? Which detail stands out to you—the dramatic stenciled floor or the gentle, cohesive color scheme with crisp white accents? Either way, this is a great example of how careful paint choices, a few well-chosen fixtures, and a small budget can produce a high-impact result.
