How to Remove Old Carpet and Paint Pink Walls for a Fresh Look

This simple reader-submitted makeover proves paint can work wonders. Here’s a note from Megan and Matt:

Hi John and Sherry! We bought our first house almost two years ago from an elderly woman who had painted everything pink — walls, trim, even the ceilings. I picked up 18 gallons of paint the day of closing. I knew we had a lot of work ahead, but I didn’t fully grasp the concept of sweat equity at first. The first things to go were the puke-green carpet and then the wall color. Honestly, I would have been happy to stop there, but a little clearance shopping and a lot of spray paint later, my vision finally came together. By the way, I love your blog. I never even considered spray paint until I started reading — it opened up a whole new world for me. Lol. Keep up the great work! – Meg (and Matt)

Isn’t that a cozy bedroom transformation? The deep chocolate paint adds warmth while bright white curtains and bedding keep the room feeling light and fresh. We especially loved the small row of hooks Meg installed to display jewelry beside the window — a simple, attractive, and practical touch.

Thanks for sharing the photos, Meg and Matt — and good luck with the rest of your home updates. The previous owner probably wouldn’t recognize this bedroom now, which is a great thing!
