With a name like “hardware,” you might assume swapping out drawer and door pulls is difficult. In reality, changing hardware is one of the quickest, most affordable ways to give furniture an instant makeover. We wanted a little more visual interest on our living room console table by the door, so we started there.

We chose graphic black-and-white pulls to add contrast and personality. The new knobs instantly refreshed the console without altering the table itself.

Removing the old knobs took about 30 seconds per drawer with a screwdriver. Installing the new pulls was just as fast — they slipped into place easily and required minimal effort.

At roughly $8 each, these knobs are a small investment with a big visual payoff. They dramatically enhance our basic $99 Target console table and tie in beautifully with our black-and-white gallery wall.

If you want to refresh a piece of furniture for far less than the cost of paint — and with much less effort — swapping out the hardware is one of the most effective options. New knobs or pulls can transform a look in minutes and give an everyday piece more character.
