So why start a blog 16 months after buying the house, especially after already making many changes?
Because the kitchen is next.
Now that we’ve completed our other big project this year—getting married—we’re ready for project number two: a full kitchen remodel. You may have already seen the first transformation we did:
1970s Lumberjack’s Paradise:

21st Century Kitchen:

That first update was mostly cosmetic—fresh paint, new appliances, updated cabinet hardware, and vinyl floor tiles. It made a big difference, but it was only the beginning.
This time we’ll be taking the walls and cabinets down and rebuilding the space from the studs up. We plan to keep the newer appliances we installed previously, but everything else will be reconsidered: layout, storage, lighting, surfaces, and workflow. Our goal is a kitchen that looks cohesive with the rest of the house, functions well for everyday use, and reflects our personal style.
Starting a blog now gives us a place to document the entire process: planning, design decisions, budget considerations, contractor selection, demo, unexpected challenges, and the finishing touches. We want to share the lessons we learn, the mistakes we avoid (or learn from), and the products and techniques that work for us. If you’re contemplating your own remodel, we hope these posts will help you make informed choices.
Over the coming weeks we’ll outline our design priorities and the practical constraints we’re working with. We’ll post progress updates and photos so you can follow along from teardown through the final reveal. Expect posts about cabinetry options, countertop materials, flooring choices, lighting plans, and clever storage solutions. We’ll also cover timeline management and ways to keep the project on budget without sacrificing quality.
Remodeling a kitchen is a major undertaking, and we want this space to be inviting, functional, and built to last. We’re excited to tackle the challenges ahead and to share every step with readers who enjoy home improvement projects, design inspiration, or simply the satisfaction of a well-executed renovation.
Stay tuned for the next post, where we’ll share the initial design concept, layout ideas, and the materials we’re considering. We’ll also reveal which elements from our earlier update will stay—and which will go.
