Make a Window Appear Bigger: Simple Styling and Design Tricks

Finally — no more living room window limbo. This weekend we picked up bamboo blinds to fill the gap between the top of the window and the curtain rod, instantly making the window look taller and adding warm texture.

Here’s the window before the blinds, clearly asking for something beneath the rod:

And the finished look, thanks to two wooden blinds from Walmart (about $25 each) and a bit of muscle to install them:

We actually use the same blinds in the den and over the laundry nook instead of expensive cabinet doors. Repeating the material ties different areas together and reinforces the illusion of height. Our favorite combo for large picture windows is simple wooden blinds paired with white, floor-length Ikea curtains — it’s a clean, airy look that elongates the wall and feels polished without being fussy. We often recommend it to anyone looking to make windows read larger.

What do you think — did this treatment do our biggest window justice?
