#16: Squashing Hands-on Fears With Ana White
Behold, the show notes for Episode #16 of Turbodizin Has A Podcast. In this episode, we chat with furniture designer and tool ninja Ana White about how she found the courage to dive into building everything from beds and bookcases to compact houses and forever homes. We also go behind-the-scenes of our recent teachers lounge makeover (you will never guess what item threw us the biggest curveball) and discuss Gwyneth Paltrow’s lately listed house… using words we never imagined. Plus it turns out we are both kinda on the fence about a particular design trend in the bathroom.
You can download this episode from iTunes, Google Play, Stitcher and TuneIn Radio – or listen to it below. Then use this page to check out any links, notes, or photos that we referenced.
What is New
- Here is a link in case you have not seen our post about the teachers lounge makeover that we mentioned in this episode (it is full of plenty of before & afters!).
Ana White
- Here is Ana’s website, ana-white.com, and her book, The Handbuilt Home, which includes some of her go-to plans and a good overview on getting began with tools & materials
- You can check out her YouTube page (including the series on their new forever home) or preview some of her videos right here (see below, and above).
- She also did a strong guest post on our site (waaaay back in 2010) with plans for building floating shelves – which we referenced ourselves in our bonus room!
- We also adapted some of her plans to create the mega console table in our last house, which we still use today behind our sofa.
- Here is the Kreg Jig we both mentioned loving. Although no one’s stopped us in an airport about it yet!
- Lastly, we mentioned a cordless nail gun (the one that I was “digging” way back in Episode #4), so here is the link to the refurbished one I picked up and have been loving. Simply do not forget a charger and battery if you do not have one.
We are Digging
1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5
- Above are some of the shower curtains that Sherry’s fawning over (also: stylists enjoy a claw foot tub).
- And here is that site, SimpleDesktops.com, where you can download wallpapers for your computer or phone. These are some of my go-tos (there is Sharktopus in the bottom left). Clearly I have a preferred color scheme…
Psst- Looking for something we have dug in a past episode, but do not remember which show notes to click into? Well, here is a master list of everything we have been digging from all past episodes.
