#81: …And Then The Pipes Froze

The beach house has thrown us plenty of curveballs, but frozen pipes was not something we ever saw coming. This nailbiter had a (mostly) glad ending, except for one stupid move we made in the final moments. Plus, is pricey high end paint truly worth it, or are you better off sticking with the stuff at your local hardware store? The answer might surprise you. And find out how Sherry’s combating the clutter of little accessories and why John’s fighting off social media FOMO.

What is New

- The photo above is the one our neighbor sent us of our beach house during the “bomb cyclone” that dropped plenty of snow and freezing temperatures on us earlier this month (and majorly threatened our pipes).
- I am kicking myself for not taking a picture of that duplex toilet we described (in my defense, I was worried about other things in the moment) but here is a shot of the outside covered in snow.

- If you are looking for more pointers or info about dealing with frozen pipes, here is a helpful article from the American Red Cross.
- And if you missed my original discussion about my resolution “word” for the year – it is in Episode #78.
- Also, should I get myself this t-shirt?

- We will be sure to update you once our 2017 Family Yearbook from Blurb arrives (it is scheduled to come this week!) but in the meantime, you can read more and see peeks into our past year’s albums. FYI, we got the “Standard Landscape” sized photo book and used a 30% off coupon that we received by email shortly after registering an account there.

Can We Simply Talk About?
- Here is the article that spawned our discussion: The Washington Post’s “Are pricey, trendy paint brands truly worth it?“
- If you want to see some of the Glidden paint colors we used throughout our first house, you can check out our house tour or this look at its evolving color palette.
- And for the paint rundown for our second house, which was largely made up of Benjamin Moore colors, here is the house tour and an overview of its color palette.
- As you can see from the little collage below – we have certainly used a variety of paint brands:

- After we recorded, I did dig up this article arguing FOR the pricey brands like Farrow And Ball (although should we be surprised that Architectural Digest is suggesting you splurge?). It does make some interesting points about why those “trendy” brands come with a higher price tag.
We are Digging

- Above is that large-scale fake fern that Sherry described in the episode that helped her solve a cluttered-looking console in our dining room.
- And below are some more larger-scale accessories she’s loving lately to assist combat the visual clutter that a bunch of smaller knick-knacks can create: 1 /2/ 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 / 7 / 8

- And if you wanna check out that book I recommended, it is This Is Where You Belong: The Art And Science Of Loving Where You Live. It was such a fascinating read.
