Sneaky Little Petersiks: Inside the Secret Lives of the Petersik Family

Surprise — we’ve been on the road for the past five days and rolled into our driveway last night at 7pm after a nine-hour drive. Did we unpack and settle into the couch right away? Not a chance. We threw this post together instead. Classic “procrastinate-unpacking” behavior. I’m way too excited to relax — I can’t wait to share our trip with you. We left early Thursday morning for Charlotte, NC and stayed through Saturday morning. From there we drove to Loganville, GA, where we stayed until Monday morning, then made the long drive home. Thank goodness Clara and Burger love car rides. Here’s a peek at what we did — just the tip of the road-trip iceberg:

First stop was Charlotte to visit our stylish friend Kristin (her husband Matt and pups Sage and Simon joined in). You may remember their home from a House Crashing feature a few years back. One of our favorite shots of her kitchen nook from that visit:

And here’s that same nook now — still adorable, though this time with a baby in a booster seat (ours):

While in Charlotte we also “house crashed” a couple of gorgeous homes. Here’s one that made us swoon:

And another charming space that left us delighted:

We also peeked into a particularly cool little office that had us smitten:

I picked up some fab fabric finds at one of my favorite gigantic warehouses just outside Charlotte — Mary Jo’s. It’s always a treasure trove:

Next we headed to Loganville, Georgia to hang out with my blog (and real-life) bestie Katie B., her husband Jeremy, and their little guy Will, who was born about five weeks before Clara. It was so sweet to watch our babies meet and start getting to know each other. Since Katie and I were pregnant at the same time, it felt extra special to see our little ones together:

One night we played Minute to Win It games after the kids were asleep — yes, we are that cool. Katie managed to get a cookie from her forehead to her mouth within the time limit and won the glory. We also hit Goodwill and found a pile of things that either are already loved or could be loved with a little paint and new fabric. Katie and I even took a silly “Friends” photostrip that still makes us laugh:

Here’s a sweet portrait Katie took of Clara — doesn’t she look angelic? Katie’s photography skills are inspiring, and they’ve motivated us to learn our Nikon better so we can capture as many moments as she does:

On the way back we stopped at one of my favorite spots — the Pottery Barn Outlet in Gaffney, SC. It’s a go-to for deals and quirky landmarks like the giant sky-high peach near that exit. I picked up a few great finds for under $30 that I’ll show you soon.

There are lots more details to share — house-crashing tours, a rundown of my Mary Jo’s fabric haul, a recap of Goodwill hunting, and plenty of photos. We have millions of pictures to sort through, so expect several follow-up posts. It was a hot trip — over 100 degrees many days — but worth every sweaty mile. Now I’m off to go through all those photos with the air conditioning blasting.

P.S. By request, we’ve put together a breakdown of the baby products we use (shampoos, creams, sunscreen) and how we store them. That post is live now on BabyCenter.
