We’re excited to share a gorgeous downtown Washington, D.C. home today. We had a wonderful time meeting Adam and Amber and touring their Capitol Hill rowhouse. The couple has created a warm, stylish space that makes the most of every square foot.

Step inside and you immediately see how thoughtfully the 1,000-square-foot layout was planned. Though modest in size, the home feels welcoming and purposeful. Small-scale furniture—like the compact sofa—and a cozy dining nook make daily life comfortable. The round dining table can seat up to six when needed, and oversized art and a large floor lamp add drama while balancing the home’s petite proportions.

One step up into the dining area subtly separates the space from the living room without closing it off. The airy iron banister and reflective surfaces—like a mirrored buffet—keep sight lines open and preserve a light, spacious feel. Metallic dining chairs and a glass-based lamp reinforce that open, elegant vibe.

Amber’s table styling is charming and deliberate. She’s an experienced event planner, so thoughtful touches and inviting vignettes are part of the home’s personality. Small details make each corner feel curated and homey.

The couple uses clever storage solutions to keep the home tidy and guest-ready. An eggplant-colored cabinet beside the TV houses media components so electronics can be hidden while entertaining—a smart fix when mounting a television near a fireplace. That piece was an affordable Craigslist find, proving that great style doesn’t have to cost a fortune.

From the stair landing you get a lovely birds-eye perspective of the living and dining areas—an effective reminder of how well every inch is used without feeling cluttered. The layout flows and retains plenty of visual breathing room.

Upstairs, a hallway links the guest bedroom/office to the master bedroom. We admired the two-tone doors Amber created by taping and painting the lower panels the same gray used on the walls (Benjamin Moore’s Stonington Gray). It’s an architectural, budget-friendly detail that anyone can replicate with leftover paint and painter’s tape.

The pop of orange on the hallway chest is a handmade touch. Amber collects vintage brooches and turns them into brooch bouquets: she wires pins to wooden skewers, wraps them with floral tape, and mixes in real blooms for charming, long-lasting arrangements.

The guest bedroom/office is painted a bold peacock blue that pairs beautifully with a pomegranate-colored CB2 daybed. Layered art, patterned curtains, and textured pillows complete the energetic look and make the room feel collected and comfortable.

The bathroom keeps things fresh with pops of green and a printed shower curtain. Largely unchanged from when they moved in, the bathroom demonstrates how a few well-chosen accessories can refresh a space without a full renovation.

You’ll find the bedroom behind another tone-on-tone door. High ceilings are emphasized with tall drapes, and Amber plans to DIY a large upholstered headboard to help balance the window wall. It’s a project that will add more warmth and scale to the room.

Adam also completed a simple, effective door update in the bedroom: he removed the horizontally slatted closet tops and replaced them with decorative metal radiator sheets found at home centers. The metallic panels echo other gold-toned accents in the room and create a balanced, custom look.

The bedroom benefits from two closets, so the matching metal-insert doors read as a deliberate design choice. Amber stores extra dining chairs in the bedroom—chairs that happen to pick up the same hammered gold finish as the metal inserts—keeping the aesthetic cohesive.

The kitchen remains a work in progress, and Amber plans to share updates once they tackle it. In the backyard, Adam recently finished a brick patio—built just a day before our visit—which he plans to furnish and possibly add a built-in grill area to. We look forward to seeing photos when those updates are complete.
