Stylish Big Boy Bedroom Ideas with Patterned Wallpaper

Psst—We usually post on Fridays, but Sherry will be back with a small bonus post in a few hours.

We get a lot of requests to share kid rooms, and since our family has a girl and we recently showed her big-girl-room makeover, we wanted to highlight the bright, playful big-boy room that Jesse designed for her son. Here’s her note:

Hi Sherry & John! My little boy is officially a “big boy” now (I’m wiping a tear…).

For his room redo I followed his “wish list,” which included lots and lots of color, plentiful storage for toys and books (harder than it sounds), a dedicated spot for drawing and painting, and—believe it or not—a deer head (welcome to Missouri). Quite the list!

Here’s how it turned out.

I’m relieved to have his room checked off my to-do list. My husband Sam (my go-to fix-it guy) and I tackled a mix of major and small projects. Big jobs included creating an orb light fixture (it cost only $21), wallpapering, and refinishing some Craigslist finds. Small fixes ranged from extending curtains with a Goodwill bedskirt to sewing pillows and organizing what felt like a five-year-old’s entire toy and book collection.

We also added plug-in sconces to the bookshelves so Henry can read in bed; they were inexpensive finds from Lowe’s, under $30. The combination of affordable DIY and smart thrifted finds kept the project budget-friendly without sacrificing style.

Most importantly, Henry loves his room, which makes us really happy. I put together a full reveal post with details and extra photos if you want to see more—thanks for letting us share it! – Jesse

There are so many elements we adore in this room. The wallpaper and the orange bed are standout favorites, and Henry’s deer head made the cut (it was a must-have for him). The cardboard deer was made by Cardboard Safari in Virginia. For more photos and project details, check Jesse’s full reveal—thanks again for sharing, Jesse!
