When Carol emailed us about her budget-friendly bathroom update, we were eager to share the simple, effective changes she made to transform her guest bath with yellow fixtures into a fresh, neutral space. Here is her note:
I love your website and your design boards. The links to quality, affordable furnishings and accessories at stores like Target, Walmart and (my favorite) JCPenney are fantastic! Here’s what I did to my guest bathroom after living with it for far too long. The “before” photos show a fishing theme with a yellow-and-green plaid curtain that we used to try to coordinate with the aged yellow floor tile and yellow sinks. It was fairly inexpensive to have a handyman replace the old yellow sinks with classic white ones and install new nickel faucets from Lowe’s. Peel-and-stick vinyl tiles from Lowe’s made a huge difference installed directly over the existing yellow tile. Benjamin Moore Philadelphia Cream warmed the walls, and a simple bamboo shade added texture. Fluffy cream towels and rugs plus a white waffle-weave shower curtain from Target completed the spa-like, neutral look I wanted. I removed a sliding shower enclosure from the tub and installed a curved shower curtain rod from Lowe’s to give the shower extra roominess (the white curtain also hides the yellow tub, which still needs to be reglazed). We’re so glad we completed this update while staying within our limited budget. Down the road we’d like to replace the full-length mirror, but for now we’re saving our pennies. – Carol
Below is the bathroom before the update, showing the dated yellow floor tile, yellow sinks, and darker accents:

And here is the crisp, neutral after—new vinyl floor tiles, white sinks, and refreshed accessories bring the space to life:

Thanks for sharing, Carol! The curved shower rod, new floor tile, and bright white sinks make a dramatic improvement. We love that you achieved such a fresh look on a modest budget. If anyone else is hesitating to tackle a project, send us your before-and-after photos—we’d love to showcase your work and celebrate budget-friendly transformations.
