It surprised us to realize it’s been nearly two years since our last video house tour. We were even more surprised to see how much the house has changed in that time.

In our heads we hadn’t done much in Richmond while focusing on the beach house and duplex renovations, but re-watching those 2016 videos made everything feel like ages ago. Back then we hadn’t turned our son’s nursery into a big boy bedroom, our daughter’s room was mid-makeover, and Sherry hadn’t yet started her minimizing spree. Our bedroom and living room have also evolved noticeably, so it turns out we haven’t ignored this house as much as we thought.
The biggest change, and maybe the most dramatic in our five-plus years here, is happening outside right now.

We’ll share a detailed post about painting the brick exterior once the project is complete, including the what, how, and costs. For now you can follow progress on Instagram Stories, or take a look inside with our full tours of the first and second floors (we skipped the third story since it’s just an unfinished attic).
Let’s start downstairs. We used our familiar filming method: I walked the camera while Sherry narrated — playing to our strengths. The footage was a bit shakier than expected, so I ran stabilization on it, which smoothed things out but introduced a few small glitches. Still, it gives an accurate sense of walking through our home. Note: our dining table was piled with duplex stuff when we filmed this a few weeks ago.

The upstairs tour runs longer because there are more rooms — and more unfinished spaces. We filmed it before Sherry’s closet video and before we added the treadmill to the bonus room, so you’ll notice the mirror isn’t hung and the bonus room looks different in that footage.

If you watched and wondered where we found a piece of furniture, what paint color we used, or where a lamp came from, we put all of that information on our source page. It breaks down each room on every floor so you can find the details quickly.
Once you’re done with these tours, take a time jump back to 2013 and watch our very first video of the house in its before state. It’s a fun reminder of how far things have come — and you’ll get a laugh at the old brick of an iPhone we used at the beginning.

We hope you enjoyed the tours. We can’t wait to share more about the exterior painting once it’s done. I had to write this post because Sherry has been so excited this week she can hardly form sentences, and she’s currently outside mapping how we’ll replace the portico that we tore off our house. So yeah — it’s been an exciting few days.

P.S. You can find all of our paint colors and a complete source list for furnishings, window shades, lighting, and accessories on our house source page.
