This week’s episode takes you behind the scenes of a home-makeover show with Candis and Andy Meredith of Old Home Love. They explain how their HGTV opportunity came about, what surprised them most about production, and why they’re so passionate about preserving historic character. They also share practical tips for introducing vintage charm into houses of any age. Sherry describes recent staging work she’s done to help neighbors sell quickly, I reveal a way I simplified one of our least-favorite chores, and we both recount how we saved hundreds of dollars on a beach-house update. Plus: why cutting the cable cord feels so difficult.

What’s New
- First up: before-and-after photos from the house we helped stage (it sold within 12 hours!). We’ll start with the master bathroom, which shares a layout similar to ours. The first photo shows the old green double vanity during demolition. The second shows the new vanities and the faux shiplap detail we recommended.

- Kitchen before-and-after: fresh paint and a new butcher-block island top made a big visual improvement without a major renovation.

- The dining room was refreshed by removing dated striped wallpaper above the chair rail, adding crisp white trim, neutral wall color, a simple light fixture, and a large rug paired with a secondhand table. The result felt larger and more inviting.

- We suggested an “extra credit” board-and-batten treatment in the hallway; they executed it beautifully. It’s a relatively low-cost way to add architectural interest and make a space feel more finished.

- For the foyer’s dingy grout, we recommended grout paint that dramatically brightened the floor for under $20. Small, targeted fixes like that can make a huge difference when staging a home.
- If you’re a Kroger shopper, consider their ClickList pickup service to save time on grocery runs.
What’s Not
- We discussed a MyDomaine piece about a common missing element in many homes that can improve comfort and style; it’s worth reading if you’re fine-tuning your decor.
Old Home Love
- Candis and Andy share their projects and process on their website and social channels, where they celebrate historic homes and sensible renovations.
- They also offer behind-the-scenes details from their HGTV and DIY Network work and have video content available for fans who want to see their restorations in motion.
- Their book, Old Home Love, is available now and collects advice and stories about renovating and caring for older houses.
We’re Digging
- We’ve been streaming with a Roku 4 box for services like Netflix and PBS Kids and are happy with the performance. We’d love tips from readers about cutting the cable cord—specifically inexpensive internet and home-phone setups. Tweet or message us on Instagram with your experiences.
- Sherry’s favorite apple cider vinegar is a pantry staple in our house—she uses it liberally for cooking and cleaning.
