All week on our Instagram stories we’ve been highlighting Black-owned businesses as an easy way to vote with your dollars and support deserving small businesses. This began after sharing a personal post on Instagram and Facebook and reading an article noting that, over the last 30 years, independent Black-owned businesses have declined sharply and Black women face significant barriers to funding. That’s unacceptable, and we wanted to help.
After featuring a few favorites, you flooded our DMs with recommendations. Dozens quickly became hundreds, spanning categories from home and food to fashion, beauty, travel, weddings, and business services. We’re still working through your amazing suggestions, and below you’ll find more than 500 Black-owned shops and makers organized by category so you can shop, gift, or explore as you like. Most offer nationwide shipping, and where locations were shared, we’ve noted them so you can find local options if you prefer to shop in person.

Over the last week I’ve connected with many of these makers directly. Their reactions to traffic spikes and sold-out items have been emotional — they often can’t believe the sudden support. Many of these entrepreneurs were struggling during the pandemic; increased orders and attention are making a meaningful difference. Thank you to everyone who is lifting these businesses up — your purchases and shares are having a real impact.
None of the links below are affiliate links. Purchases go straight to the makers and small businesses. This project isn’t a one-week effort for us — we plan to continue growing this list, feature these shops in gift guides for holidays and special occasions, and highlight them across the blog, podcast, and Instagram stories.

If you’re currently unable to buy, sharing a favorite shop with friends or on social media can be just as helpful. If an item is sold out, consider returning later — many makers are restocking as quickly as possible.
Now for the fun part: the shops. I’ve ordered many items this week and will share arrivals on Instagram stories, so stay tuned!
