Halfway Through Our Weekly Baby Photo Project: Week 26 Update

Clara is officially six months old today, which means we’ve reached the halfway mark of our weekly photo project—the one with the fabric backdrops and the photoshopped onesies.

At 12 weeks we explained the “how to” behind this series, so this post is mainly an update: we’ve added another three months of portraits. Below is a snapshot of the first 25 weeks. The full set is available to view up close on our Flickr album.

It’s hard to believe we’ve already taken 26 weekly portraits. We still look forward to our Friday afternoon photo session—camera, fabric, a white onesie, and our model. At first we wondered if weekly portraits would feel excessive and whether monthly shots might be better, but the weekly routine has become something we genuinely enjoy. Each Friday brings a new facial-expression adventure from Clara, whether she’s yawning…

…mischievously twirling an invisible mustache…

…or even donning a tiny ballerina costume to celebrate Halloween (toe pointed, naturally).

In the affordable-but-meaningful gift category, we plan to compile the collection we have so far into a small photo album for the grandparents this Christmas. They’ll be getting an early hint, but we couldn’t resist letting them know it’s on the way. Once we complete a full year of weekly photos, we’ll produce a more polished hardbound photo book for family—likely through a popular photo-print service.

We’re also considering continuing the project beyond the one-year mark because it’s been so rewarding, though we’ll probably scale back to monthly sessions to keep it manageable. Between the time and the mounting fabric stash, weekly shoots may not be sustainable forever. That said, we’re excited to repurpose the many fabric swatches we’ve collected—ideas include a DIY quilt, framed fabric art, or a decorative bunting—so nothing goes to waste.

It’s incredible to realize our baby girl is already half a year old. Time really does fly.
