Handmade Christmas Card Idea with Simple DIY Steps

With family arriving tonight for our first Christmas in Richmond, we wanted to share our holiday card with you first — you really are like family to us. We couldn’t keep this little blog going without your support, and we sincerely appreciate every visit and comment.

Holiday family photo

We took these photos earlier in the month, using a bunch of ribbon we found on clearance at Michael’s last season. Some of that ribbon later made its way onto our Christmas tree. The image is actually a composite of two pictures, because getting Clara and Burger to sit close together without doing something unpredictable — like synchronized diaper sniffing or tail grabbing — was basically impossible. If you want a laugh, there are some outtakes on Young House Life, including one we call “The Peeper.”

Holiday outtake

We hope your holiday weekend is full of fun, family, good food, and relaxation. Even though many of you will be handling holiday chaos between Christmas and New Year’s, we’ll still post short updates Monday through Friday next week. If all goes well, we’ll have a peek at some cabinet priming and painting, with a big reveal planned for the first week of January.

We also just learned we have a major book deadline on January 4 — the entire final manuscript is due — so things are about to get busy. If you’re wondering what we’ll be doing, picture us juggling a paintbrush, a laptop, a toddler, a chihuahua, or a cookie covered in sprinkles. Probably more than one of those at the same time. Happy holidays to each and every one of you!

Update: You can find a selection of our favorite holiday decor picks — many under $15 — on our favorites list.
