Since many of you enjoyed our previous messy house tour videos (like this one from our last home in 2011), we figured it was time for another reality check: we are not perfectly folded towels and perfectly placed pillows around the clock. With our focus on the showhouse and some last-minute nursery details, several other projects have been paused (some literally half finished) and a few rooms have slipped into chaos. When your house looks like this, why not share a little of the real life with the internet?
Quick notes about the video:
- There is no rapping in the video—both a relief and a small disappointment.
- I usually hold the camera because I have steadier hands while Sherry narrates, but she was busy with showhouse tasks so I stepped up and gave the tour.
- Burger makes a constant appearance, as enthusiastic as ever.
- The droopy fiddle-leaf figs in the office bounce back after watering—though they do seem extra thirsty lately.
- If a sabre-toothed tiger and a pony ever had a wedding, I would have wanted to attend as a kid—I loved tigers and checked out tiger books from the library every week for years.
- Those gleaming hardwood floors after the climb to the second floor still make me proud.
- If you were wondering about the fourth wall of the nursery, you get a quick glimpse in the video: it currently shows a floor lamp and the doorway to the hall. We might add a “wall of fun” like the one in Clara’s room at some point.
- There’s a rare look at the unfinished storage room at the end of the upstairs hallway—and yes, it’s messy too.
- I edited out a late-video outburst of “keeping it real” that I shouted like a 90s boy-band moment—I couldn’t resist keeping the video honest, but that part stayed on the cutting room floor.
If you can’t watch the video at work, the visuals still tell most of the story. Here’s a quick screengrab tour highlighting some of the rooms mid-project.

If everything stays on schedule, we should have a few days between the Homearama deadline and our baby’s arrival to finish a couple of projects and restore some order—at least until Barnacle arrives and shakes things up again.
Anyone else dealing with a project that’s creating chaos across multiple rooms? We’d love to hear about your half-finished jobs and how they’re affecting the rest of your home. We can’t be the only ones living in staged disarray.
Psst – Showhouse deadlines have made this week crazier than planned, so we won’t have a post tomorrow. We hope to be back on Monday.
