Nursery Wall Art Ideas: Cute Prints, Canvas & Decor Inspiration

We finally put things on the wall in the baby’s room — not earth-shattering, but a pretty big step for us since we hadn’t hung a single item anywhere in the new house until now (aside from a Christmas wreath on the fireplace). For the past month we were, quite literally, picture-hanging novices. That changed when we made about 34 holes in Clara’s room walls. Yes, I counted. With all those nails and anchors, the nursery now has more personality, so we snapped a few photos to show the update.

The main difference from Clara’s old room is the soft pink paint, which has subtle gray and purple undertones. We kept most of the same furniture and accessories for now — sometimes you work with what you’ve got — and we expect the room will evolve as she grows. We loved her nursery in our previous house, so keeping familiar pieces felt right while we add small changes over time. Below are photos showing how the room looks now that we finally used a hammer and level (multiple times):

We also baby-proofed the mirror.

Although the crib mattress will be lowered more than a foot once Clara starts pulling up, we wanted to be sure she couldn’t climb or pull the large green mirror down. After securing it to the wall with heavy-duty anchors, we reinforced the frame by driving two long screws through holes at the bottom of the frame. In short: we screwed the mirror into the wall. You can spot the small silver fasteners hidden among the ornate scrollwork in the photos — they’re held by heavy-duty anchors so the mirror is firmly secured. We even painted the screw heads with the same green paint used on the frame to blend them into the design.

In other baby-proofing efforts, we added outlet covers throughout most of the house (we still need a few more to finish the job). We also made sure the curtains are safe: they hang from ring clips so if Clara ever tries to swing on them the fabric can slip out of the rings without bringing the rod and hooks crashing down. That solution protects both the hardware and her safety. Now, back to the nursery photos.

The closet in Clara’s room is my favorite spot. It’s surprisingly spacious, and I imagine her one day curling up on a beanbag with a stack of books. That’s the current state of the nursery — a far cry from how it looked just over a month ago when it was completely empty and baby-free:

And here’s my favorite girl enjoying her room. The first photo shows the look she gave when I asked if she liked her block.

The next picture is what I got when I asked her to “give me fierce! Work it girl!” — channeling a little Tyra Banks. I’m pretty sure she understands more English than my sweet Italian grandma.
