When Phuong and her husband Jeff sent over their Design Dilemma after photos, we were excited to share the transformation. Many of you love seeing how our mood boards translate into real rooms, and this makeover was no exception. You might remember that we created a custom mood board for Phuong and Jeff to help turn their plain bedroom into a warm, inviting retreat. Below are the before photos to refresh your memory:

Here is the mood board we designed to introduce color, modern layers, and a sense of relaxed sophistication (more mood board details are available here):

Now for the after photos. Phuong and Jeff refreshed their bedroom with colorful, textural accents that transform the formerly neutral space into a cozy, lively retreat:

The results are striking. The room feels warmer and more welcoming thanks to pieces like the striped slipper chairs and the large abstract print placed across from the window. Pops of aqua and amber enliven the palette, while layered textures—the area rug, curtains, and decorative pillows—add depth and visual interest. Small details, such as the blue faux coral on the tall chest and mirrors behind each nightstand that reflect light, elevate the entire space and make it feel thoughtfully finished.
What can we say? We LOVE it! We ordered nearly every single item that you recommended and everything came together very easily (sorry it took us so long to send the after photos to you). The room looks great and we are very happy! Thanks so much for the awesome mood board… we’ll be back again for more help! -Phuong & Jeff
Thank you, Phuong and Jeff, for sending your update—we always get excited when these transformations arrive in our inbox. The makeover strikes a lovely balance between warmth and modern style, mixing the couple’s existing high-end furniture with more affordable additions like slipper chairs and curtains found at Target, plus on-sale accents and pillows discovered at stores such as ZGallerie, Crate & Barrel, and CB2. Their thoughtful choices show how accessible pieces and a few investment items can come together to create a polished, layered room.
Update: We no longer have the capacity to take on commissioned mood boards and are focusing on general inspiration instead. If that changes in the future, we’ll make a formal announcement.
