After a short Instagram video showing Sherry’s pared-down closet prompted hundreds of questions, we’re sharing her method for building a wardrobe that saves space, cuts costs, and reduces decision fatigue. If you want to tame an overflowing closet, lower your clothing budget, or simplify mornings for yourself or your kids, this episode is for you. We also offer an unconventional idea for filling empty bedroom corners, and John responds to a recent social media kerfuffle.

WHAT’S NEW

- Our exterior brick painting has been postponed until the end of October, so this green view will stick around a little longer. The photo above is a few weeks old, but the yard is still surprisingly lush.
- Sherry is preparing a comprehensive blog post about her closet and wardrobe system that will publish later this week. For a quick preview, here’s a peek at her side of the closet as shown briefly in her Instagram Stories (you can view those there).

- In the upcoming post she’ll demonstrate outfit combinations using items from her “uniform.” The goal is to show how narrowing types, cuts, and colors makes mixing and matching effortless — letting a few simple pieces produce many distinct looks.

- We also filmed a full video tour of every hanging bar and drawer so you can see what goes where and how much of each item she keeps. That will be posted alongside the closet post later this week.
Listener Question
- In the bedroom photos from our post about our new bed, you can see several dressers: two white-painted dressers used as nightstands and an antique wood dresser across from the bed that came to us from John’s dad.
- That same bedroom post explains how we make inexpensive Ikea curtains look polished to help fill the walls.

- The third dresser stores kids’ artwork, sentimental school papers, and fabric, and sits on the opposite wall.

- We also mentioned larger objects like the tall floor mirror we’ve had in the bedroom for years. It’s one of the items on our list of “10 things we’ve owned for 10 years,” a roundup of durable home pieces that have stood the test of time.

Event Announcement
- Come hang out with us at the West Elm Carytown Grand Opening in Richmond on Thursday, October 25th from 6–8pm. There will be food, drinks, music, and 15% off purchases in store, with a portion of proceeds benefiting a local arts charity. Please RSVP if you plan to attend so they can plan accordingly.
We’re Digging

- That photo is from last November and is one of the reasons many of us love fall, despite Sherry’s controversial Instagram take (which plenty of people still agreed with).
- Sherry has been enjoying a clay mask she mentioned on the show, which she mixes with apple cider vinegar. It’s a simple, natural clay without fragrances or additives, and she’s been using it repeatedly since recording and can’t stop recommending it.

- If you’d like more details about Sherry’s beauty routine involving apple cider vinegar and coconut oil, we covered that in a previous post that dives into those “woo woo” details.
If you’re trying to find something we’ve recommended in an earlier episode but don’t remember which show notes to open, check our master list of things we’ve been digging from past episodes. You can also see all the books we’ve suggested on our Book Club page.
