We’re celebrating fifty podcast episodes and one year of producing the show with a special behind-the-scenes episode that pulls back the curtain on some of our strangest moments, cringiest sound bites, and yes — an actual email we received from Beyoncé’s dad. We talk about what we love about podcasting (sometimes more than blogging), what drives us crazy about it, and how a pizza incident nearly derailed the whole thing. We also introduce the crew who work behind the scenes on the show. Spoiler: they’re all delightfully odd.

- Quick gear notes: we use a reliable microphone, pop filters to tame hard “P” sounds, and Audacity for editing — a free and capable program.
Homeslice Logos
- Before our first-choice podcast name fell through, we played around with some logos. They’re rough mockups — proof that we didn’t check iTunes before designing anything.
- The Home Slice podcast isn’t on iTunes anymore, but those who love pizza can still find its short run on SoundCloud.
We’re Digging
- If you want to try the Ms. Meyer’s candle shortcut we mentioned, Lemon Verbena is a favorite and pairs nicely with the all-purpose cleaner we use on counters.
- Other scent options include Geranium, Lavender, and Basil — Basil is unexpected but pleasant.
- For a bit of messy fun that keeps kids entertained, kinetic sand has been a hit in our house.
