This is old news if you’ve already picked up the latest issue of Do It Yourself magazine, but our first column is now live and we couldn’t be more excited.
DIY invited us to write a regular column that answers decorating questions from both partners, so we launched with a reader’s dilemma. Nicole was trying to persuade her husband to improve their living room storage, and we offered practical, balanced advice that addressed both function and style. The response focused on solutions that respect different tastes while delivering better organization and a cleaner, more comfortable space.
In the issue you’ll also find a variety of seasonal projects and curated gift ideas—perfect as the holidays approach—including festive bird’s nest bowls and a roundup of handmade items that make thoughtful presents. We’re especially pleased that Burger made an appearance in our piece; his little mug really adds personality to the page.
If you have a “he said, she said” decorating question for a future column, submit it on our Facebook page under the call for entries and include an email address so we can reach you. The editor selects which questions run in the column, so not every submission will appear, but it’s a great way to get real-world advice for shared spaces. Next month the column expands to two pages, which means more illustrations and the chance to answer multiple questions—so send us your dilemmas.
Have you and your partner ever clashed over a decorating choice and eventually arrived at the perfect compromise? We’d love to hear about the conflicts that felt endless and the practical compromises that resolved them—whether it was reconciling clashing styles or tolerating a beloved, well-worn recliner that somehow became part of the room’s charm.
