DIY Pink Floral Bouquet: Step-by-Step Guide to Make One

There’s nothing like a handful of fresh blooms to brighten a gray winter day. True to his promise, John reminded me that the start of January marked the beginning of his “one bouquet a month” commitment. Standing in line at our local Kroger with a three-dollar bunch of pink frilly flowers turned out to be surprisingly delightful.

John admitted he expected flowers to cost more, and when he saw the low price he even joked about upgrading to two bouquets a month. Isn’t he sweet?

For now we’ll see how long these last and decide from there. It’s remarkable how such a small purchase—cheaper than most items in our cart—can make our home feel warm and alive in the middle of winter. Even better, we managed to create two small arrangements from that one inexpensive bouquet.

I split the bouquet: half went into an old pink vase from Crate & Barrel that now sits on my desk so I can admire the blooms throughout the day—the pink flowers pair nicely with the vase—and the other half went into a glass bathroom cup on our console table (it used to hold toothbrushes; repurposing is always satisfying).

Splitting the bouquet made each arrangement just $1.50—an absolute bargain and well worth it. I could get used to this! Do you have flower-buying rituals or arranging tips? We’d love to hear how flowers brighten your world and what your favorite blooms are. We don’t even know the name of these pink beauties, so we’re planning to learn more as our year of flowers continues.
