As many of you know, I recently picked up some affordable drinking glasses that we absolutely love, and they inspired a full refresh of our glass-front corner cabinet here at Casa Petersik.

Here’s what the corner cabinet looked like before my spring update:

We like that it was already filled with plates, bowls and glasses we use regularly—no special-occasion-only pieces here. When I bought those new glasses I promised John they wouldn’t be hidden away, so I made a point of putting them where we’d see and use them every day: in the glass-front cabinet. Here’s how it looks now:

It feels fresh and light—perfect for spring. The cabinet back is painted the same blue as the walls, and the colored glassware really makes that color pop. The new glasses guided a slightly different palette that still works with our white dishes while adding a few more colorful pieces that brighten the whole kitchen.

On the top shelf we put tall Ikea glasses we’d picked up some time ago. They used to live in the adjacent cabinet, but on display their soft celery green and yellow patterns complement our green and blue World Market glasses nicely. These are our go-to glasses for orange juice and smoothies, and surprisingly we haven’t broken any in months of regular use.

We moved our initial mugs out of this cabinet (they’re useful as pen cups or holders for cotton balls, so we relocated them to another room). In their place we added inexpensive blue Ikea vases to reinforce the light, airy color story.

On the bottom shelf we included a few small pieces we already owned: a green glass votive holder, two mini Pellegrino bottles (without labels), and a budget blue glass Ikea bowl. These small accents tie into the renewed spring palette. The plain white bowls that used to sit beside the plates are now stored in the cabinet to the left, along with our clear drinking and wine glasses—making room for the colorful glasses in this cabinet. Bringing over the skinny glasses on the top shelf freed up space so everything now has a designated spot.
In short, our kitchen got a quick pick-me-up for the cost of six new drinking glasses from World Market. I don’t always take the time to rearrange, but when I do I’m reminded how refreshing it is to work with what you already have. Small swaps can make a big difference.
