Organize Your Kitchen Cabinets Together: Step-by-Step Guide

We’re back with another two-post feature inviting you to tackle a home project alongside us. Last summer we decluttered the garage, and more recently we straightened out chaotic closets (read part one here and part two here). This time we’re focusing on those often-neglected kitchen cabinets.

There’s not much explanation needed for why our two large double cabinets require a serious dose of structure and organization. They hold nearly everything edible in the kitchen apart from refrigerator items, and right now similar items are scattered across different shelves—cookie cutters sit next to couscous, lasagna noodles are tucked away far from the spaghetti, and other pantry staples are mixed together in a way that makes cooking more work than it needs to be.

This weekend our plan is simple: pare things down, group like items, and create an easy-to-maintain system for our pantry-style cabinets. That means removing expired or rarely used products, consolidating duplicates, and assigning zones—baking, grains and pasta, canned goods, snacks, and occasionally used specialty items like cookie cutters. Clear containers, labeled bins, and shelf risers will likely be part of the solution to keep everything visible and accessible.

Whether your kitchen storage needs a comprehensive overhaul or just a bit of targeted tidying, a focused weekend is all it takes to make a lasting difference. Start by emptying a cabinet, wiping down shelves, then sort items into keep, donate, and toss piles. Group similar products, place frequently used items at eye level, and store rarely used or overflow items higher up or in a separate location. Small investments like stackable containers, turntables for oils and sauces, and adhesive labels can pay off in daily convenience.

Who’s in for some spring cabinet organization? If your food storage, glassware, serving pieces, or cookware could use order and accessibility, join us this weekend. We’ll be back early next week with a full photo walkthrough of our process and the finished cabinet makeover so you can see what worked and how we solved specific storage challenges. Stay tuned for the reveal and practical tips to make your cabinets functional and tidy for the long term.
