Soft Neutral Living Room Makeover Ideas for a Cozy, Timeless Space

Oh happy day! Blayne just sent the after pictures for her recent living room makeover, and we’re excited to share them. A little over a month ago we created a custom mood board for her to guide the update. Here’s the before picture to refresh your memory:

And here’s the mood board we put together for her to inspire the final look:

Here’s the lighter, brighter after: the room now benefits from a refreshed furniture arrangement, a blue accent wall behind the fireplace, airy curtains, a bold graphic rug, and a handful of well-chosen accessories that pull everything together.

We were especially inspired by Blayne’s request for a room that “feels beachy in the sense that you would feel like if you looked out the window you might see the ocean.” The bay of windows floods the space with light and makes it feel airy and fresh. The curtains are simple Ikea panels and the bamboo blinds are from a discount retailer—proof that great style doesn’t require an expensive investment.

Here’s what Blayne had to say about her living room makeover:

“I was amazed at how much bigger and brighter it looks! And my husband loves it too. Yay! I was so excited to show it off that I invited some friends over last night. Everyone loved it. A few people who had never been over before commented that they loved the way the living room and bedroom were decorated (thanks John and Sherry!). I’m so happy to come home to this gorgeous room!” – Blayne

So what do you think? Didn’t Blayne do a stellar job with her living room? This update follows the bedroom makeover she completed earlier, and it’s rewarding to see both spaces feeling refreshed and welcoming. Hooray for after pictures!

Update: We no longer have capacity to take on commissioned mood board clients; instead, we focus on general inspiration boards. If that policy changes, we’ll announce it.
