How to Template White Corian Countertops for a Perfect Fit

Not sure how many people are checking in today with the turkey holiday approaching, but we wanted to share a quick kitchen update. We officially had our countertops templated (measured so they can be fabricated and installed), which should happen within the next couple of weeks. That means our sinkless days are finally numbered—huzzah! If you missed the earlier countertop discussion, here’s what we decided to get: counter details.

During the templating visit we learned the 12″ overhang on two sides of the peninsula needs reinforcement. The fabricator quoted $300 to incorporate steel rods during fabrication, or offered a lower-cost DIY alternative: purchase and install brackets ourselves. There are decorative brackets that would be visible, or hidden steel brackets for a cleaner look; we’re leaning toward the hidden option. Those brackets run about $15 each.

Guess which route we chose? Option two. We’ll document the bracket installation process (four on the long side and two on the short side) before the countertops go in. We’ll also cover the other kitchen tasks on our “Soon” list, like demoing the tile backsplash, removing the old plywood backing, and installing cement board to prepare for new backsplash tile.

And of course we’ll be back tomorrow with some Thanksgiving-themed content—hope you can stop by between stuffing and pie.
